Welcome to the Lammas edition of the Avebury Circular
Lammas is upon us again, and very exited we are about it too!
It only feels like yesterday we were welcoming the sun at the Solstice, but now it is time for the childish grin to appear again and prepare for another great celebration.
We are all looking forward to a great sunrise and of course not forgetting the Lammas games which will include the normal silliness and fun as always!!
So to get us in the mood we have a full packed edition with loads of new articles including Cooking at Avebury during Sabbats, A great Solstice, Looking for the Others, also we have some seasonal poems reminding us of this special time of year and some new news to keep us up to date with Avebury's activities.
We hope you enjoy the latest edition and happy Lammas from the Avebury Circular Team ..

A Great Solstice
Now with regained sleep we can look back to the summer Solstice and remember a great time enjoyed by all. A lot of preparation had gone in to making the celebration a success and it was great to see so many smiles and quite a few wobbles from some of the more merrier of us! ..
It was the first time the National Trust have been able to acquire the Glebe field which to some initially did not feel as cosy or sheltered as the normal over flow car park normally used during Sabbats, but after the campsite had been filled the extra space was really enjoyed by all who were camping.
One difference which was apparent once everyone was settled was the lack of sound of the campsite from the village which meant very few complains regarding noise compared to previous years.
As with all starts we had some early entertainment with the slightly late arrival of the toilet cubicle trailer with a some what frustrated looking driver. It became blindingly obvious that torn tire from the trailer probably did not help!
The day went into the normal activities including some open rituals and drumming circles in and around the sun circle and the Red Lion were kept well and busy through out!
As light faded the night picked up pace and once again the Kings Drummers did a cracking job of building the energies and entertaining the crowds. After there were a couple of fire spinning groups that kept everyone smiling and the drummers kept the beat for the rest of the night.
The Solstice morning was full of happy people who all looked like the night had gone well and Terry welcomed the sun who seemed slightly stuck behind a particularly stubborn cloud..
The main sun circle which was full of rubbish was painstakingly cleaned by one of the community who knows who she is ... Thanks from everyone!!!
The day continued with several busy ceremonies and everyone either enjoying the day or sleeping off the night (including the author!).
The evening ceremony went well and the quarters left to relax for a while after a busy day of rituals and the night continued with everyone catching up and having a slightly more relaxed night than the previous.
The last day went with out a hitch and after a bit of a clean the Glebe field was left pretty well un-touched so fingers crossed we can use it next year..
It was later confirmed that some high ranking police who had come to see how the activities were being handled were very pleased with what they saw ..
So with a great 2009 Solstice had by all we look forward to the next!!
Blessed Be
Piers

Cooking at Avebury during Sabbats
Is your conscience clear with using gas cookers in Avebury or is there a better way?
